Our previously adopted Ferrets. A warm thank you to all our Adopters! December 2007 12/10 Chewy
arrived as a stray via BAHS. He is very interactive and now realizes that cuddling and playing with other ferrets is nice. He was adopted briefly with three others, but had to be returned due to an abrupt change in the rental policies at the adoptive parents' residence. He has not shown any nipping or biting behavior here. Based on the condition of his teeth he was likely born in May or June of 2004. When he arrived at FVF he had a dead canine tooth, which was removed at on 6/4/07(NH). His initial vet check and distemper shot was done on 6/1/07 (AMC).
12/15 Lucinda arrived with four other ferrets when their owner had to abruptly leave the home she had rented for several years. According to the owner
these ferrets are all very people focused and do not have any nipping or biting history. Lucinda is a tiny girl who was originally adopted from FVF after an area pet store gave her to the shelter because of a
prolapsed rectum. She fully recovered and is a beautiful girl with a pretty bib. She was very fond of an older ferret who recently went to the bridge. Lucinda was likely born summer of 2003. They
all had their vet check and distemper shots done on 9/18/07 (AMC). Carmen Santiago was surrendered after her cagemate died and Carmen started attacking her owner. Carmen did not try to bite the
shelter mom or shelter volunteers-her biting seemed very focused. We have found however that Carmen hates being unexpectedly scruffed and will fight it-although she was gently scruffed for ear cleaning and had no
problems with it. Carmen was very happy to have the opportunity to play with other ferrets here at FVF-although she hissed a lot during play. FVF believes her biting will resolve itself once she has the
company of other ferrets on a consistant basis-and would benefit from an experienced, patient owner. Carmen was reportedly born April or May of 2006. Vet check and distemper done on 12/14/07 (AMC). Lil is very active and playful. She needs another high energy young ferret to play with. She may sometimes nip at fingers and toes, but it is a playful nip rather than a nasty one. She
doesn't seem to understand that people don't like it. Lil was probably born late summer or fall of 2006. Vet check and distemper done on 12/14/07 (AMC). November 2007
11/7 Sweetness is the sweetest ferret you would ever hope to meet, which prompted her name change here at FVF. She is young, probably born in Feb or Mar 2007-but early neglect left
her with some special needs. Prior to being seized, she was being feed a steady diet of children's cereal, which had resulted in a protein deficiency. In addition, she and the other animals in the house were
severely flea infested, which had caused anemia. At the time she was rescued, she was so weak she could not use her hind legs. A volunteer from the agency which seized her worked with a vet and FVF to get
her as healthy as possible before turning her over to FVF. She has recovered well, but still has hind leg weakness which prevents her from climbing between cage levels like other ferrets. She does great in a
long single level cage. She has a very odd gait, probably a lifelong effect of the early protein deficiency. Her canines are also stunted-again likely an effect of protein deficiency while they formed.
Sweetness loves people and loves being held and played with. She is also very excited when given the opportunity to play with other ferrets. She is doing well with a litter pan in her cage, but still misses
about 50% of the time while out playing. She absolutely LOVES Totally Ferret Baby Ferret food, which is a great food for her. She should stay on it until she is around 18 months old (longer than normal
because of her early problems). She should then be weaned over to another high quality food such as Totally Ferret or ZuPreem. Vet check and distemper shot done on 10/25/07 (AMC).
Precious (M) and Marley (F) arrived after they were rescued from a bad home and proved to be too much for both their rescuer and the other ferrets in the home. These ferrets are large and
VERY HIGH ENERGY. They need work on appropriate play-right now they still play kind of rough. Both have done some nipping bordering on biting, but we understand that this is not meant to hurt their person,
they are just really excited and don't understand that this hurts us. We believe they will learn if their person has patience and the time to work with them. They are doing well in the ferret room, and
having free run in the room seems to be helping them burn some energy. A home were they will get a lot of "out of cage time" would be best for this pair. They were probably born Aug or Sept 2006. Vet
check and distemper done on 9/7/07. These ferrets are in a foster home to work on their behavior, which is improving. October 200710/24
Lola
is a ball of fluffy energy who gets into all sorts of places she shouldn't, including under the fridge. She had been left with someone "temporarily", but then the owner said he would turn her loose if he had to take her back. The woman caring for her liked but recognized that she could not take on a ferret at this time. Lola has reportedly been around very young children without problems, and LOVES harassing the cats here at FVF. Lola is currently a "single" but would love playmates (either feline or ferret). Based on report and the condition of her teeth, Lola was likely born early in 2007. Vet check and distemper shot done on 10/2/07.
10/20 Felix and Rascal
arrived because their owner's dog was expecting puppies and they felt like they had their hands full. According to their former owner, Felix is extremely tame and king of lazy, although from what we have seen here, he is a great and energetic war dancer. He loves kids and does not bite. He doesn't really like baths, but cooperates. Rascal is hyper and very curious. He loves to play, especially with Felix and he likes baths. Neither has a history of biting and their favorite treat is raisins. Both prefer a water dish to a water bottle. Within five minutes of surrender one (we later determined it was Rascal) started pooping out assorted pieces of rubber toys. The vet wasn't able to feel any obstructions, but after almost a week at FVF foreign objects were still being past. X-Rays and a Barium study both came back clear and the vet did not believe intervention was needed-nothing foreign has past since 10/6, so we believe everything has gone through now. Both were reported as being "about 2" but based on the condition of their teeth we believe they are likely somewhat older and have estimated their birth date as Sept or Oct 2004. Vet check and distemper shots done on 10/2/07.
Thumper 10/18 Josie
is a striking girl who arrived as a stray via BAHS. She is very sweet and playful. She definitely likes having other ferrets to play and snuggle with (and has become very fond of her cage mates Chewy, Charlie and Lily). She was adopted briefly (with her cage mates) but had to be returned due to an abrupt change in the rental policies at her adoptive parents' residence. Based on the condition of her teeth, she was probably born early in 2006. Vet check and distemper done on 6/1/07 (AMC).
Critter 10/14 Artemus is a gorgeous dark sable boy who arrived as a stray. He was found in Waupaca County and taken to a dog rescue. When he was not claimed after seven days, he was
turned over to FVF. He is extremely sweet and playful. He hasn't shown any nipping or biting behavior. Based on the condition of his teeth, he was likely born late summer/early fall of 2005. He
arrived alone and has not yet been introduced to other ferrets, so he is currently able to be adopted as an "only" ferret. Vet check and distemper shot done on 8/30/07 (AMC).Frosty is a
great tempered, people oriented, beautiful cinnamon who was taken in by a family with other ferrets. The people who gave her to them swore he was healthy, but they noticed problems and brought him to FVF for
help. FVF identified problems with his teeth and he was put on antibiotics and had a bad tooth pulled on 6/26/07. He recovered beautifully and went back to his "new" family. He immediately went on a
hunger strike. On the fifth day he was returned to FVF where it became obvious his problem was that he MISSED the CATS. Apparently he had been raised with cats and had been with cats his entire life up to
the time he was given to the people who ultimately surrendered him to FVF. Frosty had his vet check and distemper shot on 8/3/07. At this time, he was diagnosed with a bladder infection and started taking
antibiotics. He also received a ferretonin implant at this time. 10/11 Diggie and Chewie are nice boys surrendered because the caller's daughter had to have them
but stopped taking care of them. According to the FVF volunteer who picked them up and fostered them a few days, Chewie followed her around "like a dog" and laid at her feet when she stood still. He also
laid on her lap while she worked at the computer. Diggie is more independent, but definitely enjoys human interaction and playtime. Neither of these ferrets has shown any biting behavior, although both will
do the "ferret grab" during play. Based on the condition of their teeth Diggie was likely born between July and Sept 2005, Chewie was likely born between Sept and Dec 2005. Vet checks and distemper shots
done on 7/20/07 (AMC). 10/9 Storme
and Safyre were surrendered because their activity level required more time than their family had available and they were being too rough
on one of two elderly ferrets in the home, in part because they were not able to get the individual time and attention they needed at their age. According to their former owner, Storme likes to take sandals, cell
phones, remotes and bottles or straws. He gives kisses, but if he feels like you are being to "pushy" about it he will nip your nose. He is somewhat easily startled. Safyre doesn't like to be held very
much-he is definitely not a "cuddly" ferret-he has too much to do. He also doesn't give kisses. He will bite at feet/socks, it seems to be in play. He especially liked a cat in his old household, and
would follow the cat around. They have been around cats and kids and aside from the foot fetish, there haven't been any problems. These ferrets were born in December of 2006. Their former owner had
their distemper shots done on 3/18/07 (NH) and FVF had them vet checked on 8/16/07. 10/7 Charlie was surrendered because her owner moved into a "no pets" apartment. The owner's
parents like Charlie, and gave her good care while looking for a new home for her. She was adopted briefly (with her cage mates) but had to be returned due to an abrupt change in the rental policies at her
adoptive parents' residence. Charlie is very playful and people focused. She especially seems to like playing tag. Although she arrived as a single, she has gotten pretty fond of her cage mates
(Chewy, Josie and Lily) and would like to stay with at least some of them. She was probably born late in 2005. Her vet check and distemper were done on 4/30/07 (NH). Yoda
Itchy and Scratchy
were surrendered because their owner could no longer care for them the way they deserved. Both arrived with health issues related to low protein diets. Both are doing much better now. Itchy is showing signs of adrenal disease. He received a ferretonin implant on 4/30/07(NH) and is scheduled for adrenal surgery on 9/6/07(LS). These are very nice ferrets that love interaction. Neither has done any nipping here and they are beginning to play. Itchy enjoys dragging papers and small packages (like microwave popcorn) way to his "dragon's hoard". He has earned the nickname "mailman". Scratchy immediately checks the cat's dishes when she comes out of their cage. She gets a few pieces as a treat. Also according to reports, both are 5 years old. This would indicate that they were likely born early in 2002. Vet checks done on 4/30/07, distemper shots are pending and will be done shortly.
These ferrets will be available for adoption following Itchy's surgery and recovery. September 20079/16
Franklin (aka Frankie) would make a wonderful "first ferret" for someone. He was
surrendered after his family got a therapy dog who kept trying to attack Frankie. According to the information provided, Frankie loves to hide in cupboards and draws. He also likes rubbery items (like croc
shoes) and will try to drag them into his hidey-holes and chew on them. He reportedly tries to play with cats and hasn't had the opportunity to play with other ferrets, so he would be okay as an "only"
ferret. He has no history of nipping or biting. Based on reports, and the condition of his teeth, he was probably born late summer of 2005. His vet check and distemper shot done on 8/30/07 (AMC).
9/11 Mischief had only been with his family for a
month when they found out they were expecting and their OB told them to get rid of him. According to the information available, Mischief has been around a small child and seemed to enjoy playing with her.
She would push him around in a toy shopping cart, and swing him in a doll swing and he never tried to get away. He isn't much of a snuggler, but will ask to be picked up and hugged from time to time. When he
first arrived at FVF, he didn't use the litterpan, but he is starting to learn. He is pretty indifferent to the cats and other ferrets here at FVF. The family surrendering him had been told that he is
"around two" but based on the condition of his teeth we believe he was born late winter/early spring of 2004. He was vet checked and had his distemper shot on 8/30/07 (AMC) and had a growth removed from his ear on
9/6/07 (LS). He is recovering well and could go to a new home where his ear will finish healing. Once the scab falls off, the ear should look normal except for a "notch".
August 20078/23
Blizzard arrived as surrender via Fond du Lac Humane. According to the person who surrendered her, she is good with people, but played "too rough" with another smaller
ferret. We have observed her with some male ferrets here at FVF and did not see anything outside of the normal ferret wrestling and dominance behavior. So far, she has been good about the litter pan.
Based on the condition of her teeth, she was likely born early in 2006. Her vet check and distemper shot was done on 6/3/07 (AMC). July 20077/20
Peanut and
Chaos arrived with their brothers and sister as the result of a pregnancy. According to the people surrendering them Peanut climbs anything. He is a talker who may get over excited when
getting a few kind of treat, and may nip when trying to get it. Chaos is also a climber who likes to explore. He is cuddly and likes to be held. Both have reported birthdates in July 2004. Vet
check and distemper shots done on 6/28/07 (AMC). 7/5/07 Teeka and Snuff were surrendered when their teenage owner had gotten "too busy" to take care of them properly. Teeka is a pretty dark sable described as bouncy,
happy and vocal. She was born 10/30-11/5/05. Snuff is a big beautiful albino who is very active. He does sometimes get over excited during play and may nip at these times. He has also been known
to lick your arm then follow up with a nip. Reportedly these nips are never really hard, probably more for attention. Consistent scruffing and socialization is helping him learn appropriate
interaction. He was born 8/21-8/27/05. Vet check and distemper shots done 3/2/07. June 2007 Adoptions 6/11/07 Charlie and Chewey Charlie was surrendered because her owner moved into a no pets
apartment. The owner's parents like Charlie, and gave her good care while looking for a new home for her. Charlie is very playful and people focused. She especially seems to like playing tag. She
is currently in a cage with other ferrets (Lily, Chewy and Josie), but could probably be placed as a single provided she got lots of attention. She was probably born late in 2005. Her vet check and distemper
were done on 4/30/07 (NH). Potential adopter identified.
Chewy
arrived as a stray via BAHS. He is very interactive and is enjoying the company of the other ferrets (Josie, Charlie and Lily) here at FVF, although at first he didn't seem to realize that cuddling with other ferrets was pleasant. He has not shown any nipping or biting behavior here. Based on the condition of his teeth he was likely born in May or June of 2004. When he arrived at FVF he had a dead canine tooth, which was removed at North Heights on 6/4/07. His initial vet check and distemper shot was done on 6/1/07 at Animal Medical Center.
