Our previously adopted Ferrets.
A warm thank you to all our Adopters!

January 2010

Askum and Tellum arrived with their sister (adopted separately) via Lincoln County Humane after they were found in a cat carrier on the side of a country road.  They are active and playful and sometimes get a little over excited while playing.  Askum is a great jumper.  They need a home where they will get plenty of out of cage time and active play with their people.  Based on the condition of their teeth, we believe Tellum was born later winter/early spring of 2007, Askum could be six months younger.  Vet check and distemper done on 8/10/09.

Badger Boo arrived with her two brothers (one has since gone to the bridge, the other has recently been diagnosed with bone cancer) as the result of a "high needs" infant in the house.  The owner loved them very much but realized they were not getting the attention they needed since the birth of this child.  According to the information provided by their former owner Badger Boo was born 10/16/05.  She is described as a "little ball of mischief"-which has certainly been the case at FVF.  According to information we received, she steals anything and everything and child safety locks are no match for her.  She loved the cat in the household and played well with her.  She has shown herself to be an ankle biter.  Because she does nip/bite for attention, we would not recommend her for a home with small children, although she has been with very young children (up to three years old).  Because she has always been with other ferrets she should not be considered as a single ferret.  Vet check and distemper shots done 5/8/09 (AMC).

Bruce arrived when his owner moved out of his parent's home and could not take Bruce with him.  Bruce is very friendly and people focused.  He is very playful, but even when he is totally wound up he doesn't nip or bite and will calm down immediately when you pick him up.  He didn't seem to know how to use a water bottle after he got to the shelter, but does great with the water dish (no swimming/splashing).  He is good in the litterpan while in the cage, and will likely learn outside of the cage.  Based on the condition of his teeth, we estimate he was born between Oct 2007 and Mar 2008.  His vet check and distemper was done on 1/12/10 (AMC).

Pixie and Snowball arrived with two other ferrets (now adopted) because of a worsening disability (among other things) on the part of their owner.  According to reports, all are playful, have been with cats, and are willing to be held.  Here at FVF we have seen they are all active-even Pixie who is an early senior citizen.  They are not great about the litter pan, even in the cage-they tended to use the one on the bottom level, but on the shelf toward the top of the cage, they went next to the pan.  They seem to prefer a water dish to a water bottle.  When they arrived at FVF they needed immediate baths due to life with heavy smokers.  Their coats are still coarse-but are improving with time and good nutrition (they had been fed cat food).  Both had mats-they did not give us any trouble when we rubbed them with ferret conditioner and combed them out-many ferrets would have struggled and/or bitten during such a procedure.  Pixie was born 5/23/04, based on the condition of his teeth, Snowball was likely born early in 2005.  Vet check and distemper shots done 4/23/09 (AMC). Snowball unexpectedly went to the bridge shortly after her foster mom decided to keep the girls.  Pixie is reportedly doing okay with extra attention and snuggling.

February
Zeke
was surrendered because his owner had become busy at work and no longer had time to get him out and give him the attention he needed.  According to the person surrendering him, he has never bitten (except for toes) and had been with dogs, cats and children.  We have noticed that Zeke will give you kisses on the eyes when he wants something (like down).  He was vet checked and got his distemper shot on 1/28/10 (AMC).  We have noticed he is still not eating as well as we would like-he wants "junk food" rather than good ferret diet.

Dante and Khaine were surrendered when their owner had multiple life changes which made it impossible for him to keep the ferrets.  Both these boys are very sweet and like attention from their people.  They will reportedly nip toes, but otherwise had no nipping or biting behavior reported.  Khaine got his distemper shot on 1/5/10, but Dante was good until 6/22/10, so he was health checked only at that appointment.

Sassy arrived late in 2008 with her brother Otis.  Because Sassy was a horrible biter her brother was eventually placed up for adoption separately.  Sassy was worked with here at the shelter, and has improved greatly, but will still test her limits and bite.  She was last vet checked in December of 2008.  Her distemper shot was done at the shelter on 1/31/10.

Magic and Jack were transferred to FVF from Fox Valley Humane Society after an owner surrender.  Jack has unusual markings-he has a black spot on his side.  He is a very sweet boy who is willing to be held for awhile before going off to explore.  Based on the condition of his teeth he was probably born mid 2007.  He loves his sister, Magic.  She is very small and can squeeze out of some style cages.  She is more active and not as willing to be held as her brother.  Neither has shown any nipping here at the shelter.  Vet check and distemper done on 12/10/09 (AMC).

Night and Glommit arrived with their brothers (listed separately) after being left in the parking lot of an apartment building in Steven's Point.   The volunteer who picked them up gave them their names.  All four are very sweet.  Night will bounce with other ferrets provided te other ferret gets her going.  She is a very deep sleeper.  She is a climber.  Based on the condition of her teeth she was probably born late in 2008.  Glommit likes to eat and likes to be held.  She is pretty mellow and willing to be carried around.  Based on the condition of her teeth, we believe she was born late in 2008.  All four are pretty good about the litter pan.  Vet check and distemper done on 12/10/09 (AMC).

March

Stormy and Strobe were found running loose in Baird Park in Green Bay.  After their stray hold was up at Bay Area Humane, they were transferred here.  Stormy is a dark sable male who stresses when put with ferrets other than his sister.  When we tried to introduce him to the ferret room, he became very ill because of the stress.  He is doing much better in a large cage.  He loves people and is especially fond of a sleeping tunnel.  He is starting to play now that he is feeling better.  He could benefit from a dental cleaning-we will schedule it as soon as he is 100% recovered from his illness.  Based on the condition of his teeth he was probably born late in 2006.  Strobe is a hyper girl.  She isn't interested in being held, she has things to do!  She isn't particularly interested in ferrets other than her brother-she isn't as fearful as he is however.  Based on the condition of her teeth, she was probably born late in 2007.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 12/10/09 (AMC).

Puddles and Toots would be great first ferrets.  They love being cuddled and getting attention from their people.  Puddles is a fat boy who will benefit from being in a home were he get some exercise.   He is the supreme alpha, and will put any ferret in line who breaks his social protocol.  He has been causing a lot of squealing in the ferret room.  He is very slow moving and sweet with people.  He is indifferent to dogs.  He likes to have his Buddha belly rubbed.  He doesn't pink mouth-the most violent he gets is to use his little incisors to "flea bite" you when he is excited, and it still takes a lot.  Puddles eats when bored.  Toots is also overweight.  She is very sweet and loves to dance, dook, and play.  She is fun loving.  She also loves to just hang out with you on the couch when she is tired.  Toots is a talker and loves a good time. She is great with dogs. She can get nippy when excited-she will take skin and twist-but won't break the skin.  She has a very bad habit of chewing on live wires when bored so watch out!  Based on the condition of their teeth, they were probably born late 2005 or early 2006.  Vet check done 12/17/09 (AMC).  They got their distemper shots 1/15/10 at Fox Valley Ferret.

Julz arrived with her sister Kira (listed for adoption) from a home in the Twin Cities.  According to owner report,  Julz reportedly bit men, at the shelter we noticed that she is an "equal opportunity" biter which sometimes seems to be an attempt to initiate play, but which also shows up when she doesn't want to be bothered.  Her biting has worstened over time, to the point we can no longer offer her for adoption.  She loves to play and war dance with other ferrets. She gets along well with cats, but has never been around dogs.  According to information received, and the condition of her teeth, she was likely born summer of 2005.  Distemper shot done at FVF on 3/7/10.

Shadow (center) and Nal (left) arrived with three other ferrets from two different owners.  Unfortunately they could not be placed together, so Shadow and Nal stayed together.  Shadow is friendly as all get out.   He LOVES chicken Bandits.  He loves new things.  He gets a poofy tail when happy/excited, which is often.  He is very sweet, and happy.  He likes to play with his human and with other ferrets.  He loves rice box and is just in awe of how awesome jingle eggs are.  He is reported to be a shoe chewer.  Based on the condition of his teeth and owner report, he was born mid 2008.  If the five have to be split up, Shadow and Nal will stay together.   Nal  is sweet and placid.  He is a "Velcro ferret" who will follow his human like a puppy.  He gives kisses, and loves all treats.  He plays well with everyone and is a great tube racer.  He will materialize out of nowhere if treats are opened.  He is usually found by your feet or dancing in the group.  Based on the condition of his teeth and owner report, he was likely born late 2007 or early 2008.  Vet check and distemepr shots done on 1/5/10 (AMC).

Tiny Einnie originally arrived as a stray through Bay Area Humane.  She was totally bald from adrenal disease except for two tufts of fur behind her ears.  She was adopted and spent just over a year in that home before returning as a victim of the economy.  Einnie is still fairly high energy and very playful.  She is also very affectionate.  We have found that Einnie likes other ferrets, especially if they will play with her without being too rough.  She is currently sharing a playpen with Jack (see above) and two ferrets not yet ready for adoption.  Einnie had adrenal surgery on 4/11/08 (LS).  Her distemper was done at the shelter on 9/10/09 and she was vet checked on 9/30/09 (LS).  Einnie has a toe that is somewhat twisted-it is from an old injury and does not seem to bother her.  We are estimating she was probably born mid  or late 2004.

Tiger and Kira, arrived with two other ferrets as victims of the economy. Tiger was born 1/06.  He gives kisses and loves attention, but tries to dominate other ferrets.  He reportedly answers to his name.   He was nearly bald but has now brought in a coat.  He had adrenal surgery on 4/30/09 (LS).  Unfortunately, the tumor is inoperable.  Tiger got a ferretonin implant early in May and again in Sept of 2009 to help with the symptoms, but it will not cure the tumor.  These implants will have to be done every 3-4 months, which makes him a special needs ferret.  Kira is described as "shy"-she seemed very sad when she first arrived at FVF-but she plays and war dances.  We have decided that some of the "sadness" people perceive is due to her markings.  According to her former owner, she came to her about 2 years ago after spending her life to that point in a cage.  She and Tiger are bonded.  Based on the condition of her teeth we believe she was born spring of 2006. Vet check and distemper shots done 4/23/09 (AMC).

Spunky arrived via Bay Area Humane as a stray.  According to the FVF volunteer who picked him up and housed him for two weeks before getting him to the shelter, he is very social with other ferrets and had no issues with their cats.  At the shelter, we noticed that he tends to be subordinate to other ferrets and does not attempt to assert any kind of dominance, rather he screams like he is being murdered and hides when another ferret dominates him.  He is very social with people and would make a good first ferret.  He should not be considered as an only since it is pretty obvious he has been with other ferrets prior to his arrival at FVF.  Based on the condition of his teeth, we believe he was born late 2006 or early 2007.  Vet check and distemper shot done on March 3, 2010

April

Love (sable) arrived with his brother (at bridge end of Oct 2009 due to lymphoma) and sister (went to the bridge 2/12/10) after being left at a small rural animal shelter in a liquor box.  Love was very thin, but unlike his sister he has thrived here at FVF.  Since he has always been with other ferrets, he cannot be considered as an "only".  He would do well with a ferret around his age, or maybe a little older.  He earned the name Love by his constant kissing-he really loves people and attention.  Based on the condition of his teeth, we believe he was born mid 2007. Vet check and distemper done 10/23/09 (AMC).

Chuckie Knuckles and  Barry arrived with their sisters (now adopted), after being left in the parking lot of an apartment building in Steven's Point.   The volunteer who picked them up gave them their names.  All four are very sweet.  Chuck has very arched toes on his front feet.  Our vet took x-rays and saw no damage to the bones or joints.  She believes his ligaments may be contracted as the result of a birth defect.  He does not seem to be in any pain and massaging his feet may or may not help over time.  He doesn't seem to bounce or war dance, rather, he walks around and likes to be carried.  His coat is pretty rough and he has rat tail.  He may not be the prettiest ferret out there, but he is filled with love to give.  Based on the condition of his teeth, he was likely born late in 2007.  Chuckie had adrenal surgery on 3/11/10 (LS) and recovered well.  All he needs now is time to bring in a good coat and a forever home.  Barry is a bouncy boy.  He is a big albino fluff-ball.  He doesn't really want to be carried around-he'd rather be playing.  Based on the condition of his teeth, he was probably born late in 2007.  All four are pretty good about the litter pan.  Vet check and distemper done on 12/10/09 (AMC).

Teaspoon, Snowman and Suki had belonged to two different families, but had lived together for several months and need to stay together.  Teaspoon is very sweet and very active.  She is also very independent.  She checks in with her human but cruises the fringes doing her thing when out.  If you are wearing socks she will attack your feet and get very aggressive trying to get those socks!  She likes fruity treat flavors, but will eat chicken flavors too.  She is a climber and has several stuffed bunnies that are her babies.  Based on the condition of her teeth and owner report, she was born late 2008 or early 2009.  If they have to be split up, Teaspoon would probably be happiest with Suki and Snowman.  Snowman is a sweet fun simple little guy.  He is dancy and happy.  He LOVES his sister, and will wait for her to get up and get going before exiting the cage, but loves everyone in the group too.  He is a ferret who gets cage stressed, so a large cage and plenty of out time is a must for these ferrets.  He chews cage bars and shakes them when bored, or looking for any type of attention, good or bad.  He has neural tube defects-his eyes have a blue cast and he is deaf.  His teeth are also affected.  He is a chow hound.  He has a foot fetish and will chew shoes and attack stocking feet.  The attacks on socks are not as severe as Teaspoon's, but it still hurts.  Based on the condition of his teeth and owner report, he was likely born late 2007 or early 2008.  Suki is SWEEEEEET!  A happy, dancy little girl who seeks out her human and other ferrets and plays and play and plays.  She loves surprises. .  She appears to seek out men more than women but is not anti woman.  She would trade her soul for a rice box with another ferret in it.  She gets along very nicely with Teaspoon and seeks out her brother.  Like her brother, she is deaf.  Like so many other deaf ferrets she is a talker.  Based on the condition of her teeth and owner report, he was likely born late 2007 or early 2008.

Sawyer and Savannah were born late between April 24th and May 2nd of 2009.  They are very playful and bouncy.  Neither really likes being held, but they love being played with.  Both are decent with the litter pan.  Savannah will nip when she is very excited.

Sammy was added to the group about a month before they were all surrendered.  He is very sweet and loves to play.  He is older then the other two, probably born between spring and fall of 2007.  He sometimes gets picked on my Sawyer.  If this happens, he wants to be picked up and comforted.  Sammy tends to sleep by himself while the other two sleep together.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 4/15/10.

Ralph is a very sweet boy who came to FVF as a foster.  When his owner did not live up to the terms of the foster contract, Ralph was classified as adoptable.  He likes to play chase games and hates to be in a cage (although he seemed to adjust to the large cage at FVF).  He will dig at carpeting trying to get under closed doors.  He will grab socks, otherwise he hasn't shown any nipping or biting, although he does mouth during play.  He has been around dogs-he simply ignores them.  Ralph was born Sept of 2008.  He had his vet check and distemper done on 3/3/10.

Parker arrived as a stray-his name comes from being found in a park. Nobody claimed him so at the end of his stray hold he was classified as adoptable.  He is a great match for Ralph.  They play chase games and wrestle.  Parker is showing himself to be the dominant ferret and will take toys and treats away from Ralph.  He loves tubes and playing "blankie".  He hasn't shown any nipping or biting behavior, although like Ralph he may mouth in play.  Based on the condition of his teeth, he was likely born between March and June of 2009.  Vet check and distemper done on 4/14/10.

May
Scrat and Luke arrived in on Aug 4, 2009 after Luke was grabbed by the family dog and had her hind leg broken.  A week later, a bite wound on the opposite hip abscessed.    Treatment with antibiotics did not solve the problem so it was necessary to surgically clean it out.  We were so busy dealing with "his" medical issues we didn't think to "check his plumbing" until several months after "he" arrived-at that time it was discovered that Luke is a female. As of Oct 1, she is playing and war dancing-which we had not expected would be possible for up to six months.  Luke is a very sweet ferret.  She tolerated several weeks of medications without ever attempting to nip even though her leg must have been uncomfortable.  According to the information from her former owner, she hates squeaky toys and will bite whoever is holding it.  She hides soft stuffed toys behind the couch.  She likes to play "keep away" with the family dog (how the bite happened), people and cats.  She bites and pulls at cage bars if she is not allowed out often enough.  Based on the condition of her teeth and owner report, she was born mid 2006.  Scrat was born about a year later.  She is extremely playful.  According to her previous owner, she likes to chase cats and dig in just about anything she can find.  We have found her to be a very sweet ferret, who doesn't bite-although she does sometimes mouth during play.  Both were vet checked on 8/4/09 (LS).  Their distemper shots were done at the shelter on 8/10/09.

Fievel  (Fival) arrived with a much older, adrenal ferret when their owner was forced to move and could not take them.  His brother had adrenal surgery and is doing well, but the decision was made to place Fievel with other more active ferrets.  He is very people focused and loves to play.  He also adores cats.  He was vet checked and had his distemper shot on 4/18/10 (LS).

Tweek and Smokey are two of four ferret brought to FVF from Totally Ferret because there is currently no ferret shelter operating in CO.  Tweek and Smokey had been surrendered to a humane society mid June.  That humane society is not equipped to rehome ferrets and contacted TF.  The reason given by the person surrendering them was "no time and they smell".  Records indicate both ferrets had been underweight.  Both are a good weight now.  These ferrets are very sweet, but do "attack" feet when excited.  They talk a mile a minute when they are out exploring.  Both are great dancers.  They are very happy to have human interaction.  It was apparent nobody had spent much time with them prior to their arrival here.  Neither had been exposed to a litter pan before coming here, but have improved, at least in the cage.  They need someone willing to work with them giving positive reinforcement.  These two are very definitely bonded and are never far from each other.  They did not do well with other ferret, tending to stay to themselves.  They seem much more relaxed in a cage rather than in the ferret room.  The condition of their teeth indicate they were likely born early to mid 2007.  Vet check and distemper done on 6/30/09 (AMC).

Romy came to FVF when the person who had taken her in about a year ago no longer had time to give her.  She is very energetic but doesn't mind being held.  She has been know to give a little nip following licks, and does sometimes nip during play.  She is pretty decent with the litter pan, at least in the cage.  She had been around a small dog, they played well with each other.  She has been introduced to other ferrets here at the shelter, she is happy to have playmates.  Based on report, and the condition of her teeth, she was probably born summer or fall of 2008.  Vet check and distemper done on 5/21/10 (AMC).

Marley was surrendered when her owner went away to college.  She was very well taken care of and actually came with complete vet records.  She is a very active, playful girl who will do well with another active ferret about her age.  According to records received, she had a vaccine reaction in May, 2009-but at that time she receive both a rabies and distemper at the same time.  She had her distemper on 5/23/10 and had no reaction at that time (but we do not use Purevac).  Most recent vet record now at AMC.

Riley and Sweetie were surrendered as the result of a divorce.  Riley was originally adopted from FVF early in 2008.  He is deaf, so he is a "dead" sleeper.  He is described as independent and a good ferret.  Sweetie was purchased at the Appleton Petland before it closed.  She is described as a cuddler who is not as independent as her brother.  She likes to be inside of things.  They have been around dogs and kids.  Based on the condition of her teeth, we believe Sweetie was likely born spring of 2007.  Riley is about the same age.  Vet check and distemper done on 4/18/10 (AMC).
Riley's first FVF listing:
Riley is a young male, surrendered when his owner was accepted to grad school and could not find housing that allowed pets. According to her, Riley loves to be with his family and demands their attention. He will follow you if you get up and walk away from him or wiggle your fingers at him. He has no bite history and will rarely even mouth you during rough play. He has been with small children and does well with them. He has had contact with other ferrets and enjoys playing with them. He doesn't bite feet or chew cords. He loves tubes, plastic bags and toys that vibrate (he hugs them). He loves it when you run and he can chase you. He likes the outside and will slink through the grass. He is deaf, which makes him very vocal. We are estimating he was born late winter or early spring of 2007. Vet check and distemper done on 5/19/08 (AMC).

Harley was found wandering stray in a mobile home park.  The person who found him put an ad in the paper, but no one who called was able to accurately describe him or the harness or collar he was wearing (too tightly) when found.  He is a very sweet little guy who needs to put on some weight.  He has had a good appetite here at the shelter and gets perkier and more playful by the day.  He likes being around other ferrets.  According to the condition of his teeth, we believe he was born late in 2008 or early in 2009, making him about 1½ as of his vet check on 5/21/10 (amc).  Distemper shots were done at that time.

Polly arrived with Bear and George but since they were so much older than she is we decided to find Polly a more age appropriate playmate.  Polly is very active and does sometimes nip.  We believe gentle correction will eventually get her to stop the nipping during play-it seems to be from overexcitement rather than malice.  Based on the condition of her teeth, she was likely born the very beginning of 2009.  We attempted to pair her with another young ferret that arrived around the same time as she did, but that ferret was fearful of Polly's high energy approach to play.  Polly was adopted in Oct of 2009, but her energy level and nipping proved too much for the adopter, whose other ferret is very mellow.  Polly needs a home with a young high energy ferret and an owner who will give her plenty of our of cage time.   Vet check and distemper done on 9/10/09 (AMC)

Munchkin is very sweet, very cute and a total diva.  She loves to be with her human and is happiest going everywhere and doing everything with her human, especially if placed on her human's shoulder.  She is good with children.   She will need to be a single and would be in heaven if that happened.  She tolerated another ferret at her former home while in the cage but was constantly driving him out of "her" things (that is everything).  During the time she was at a FVF volunteer's home, she would not tolerate the volunteer's ferrets looking at her through the cage and protested loudly.  She also attacked and screamed at the dogs in the home but did start tolerating them.  Munchkin is very vocal with her displeasure.  She is delightful out and alone but is stressed by other ferrets and other animals (though she tolerated the cat in her prior home).  She became very stressed by her prior home problems.  She has licked bald spots on her front legs and wrists and has licked her back hocks hairless as well.  She was apparently very well cared for in her previous home until financial issues arose in the last month or so before she was surrendered.  Based on the condition of her teeth, we think she was born late in 2008 or early in 2009.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 5/19/10

June
No adoptions took place in June.

July
Nova and Pedro (no bio written)
Taylor (no bio written)

Timmy
arrived with a much younger ferret (adopted with a more age appropriate playmate).  He was almost totally bald from adrenal disease.  He had his surgery and a dental cleaning on 4/16/10.  In addition to the adrenal disease, he was found to have a growth on his liver-it was removed and he is recovering well.  He is in a mid-activity room here at FVF, even though he has to be over six years old.  Because of his age and his medical history, he is a very poor candidate for adoption and realistically will spend the rest of his life here at the shelter in spite of the fact that he is one of the sweetest boys you could ever hope to meet.

Sparks is a sweet little girl that was found stray in CO.  She was not claimed, so DFL transferred her to a CO ferret shelter.  That shelter was overwhelmed and FVF had agreed to take ferrets to help keep them from closing.  Sparks was one of the transfers.  She is very active and talks a mile a minute when she is out exploring.  She is people focused and enjoys being played with, but doesn't think much of being held unless she is VERY tired.  She was transferred to FVF in a cage with nine other ferrets, but while she tolerated them, she showed no real interest in cuddling or playing with any of them.  She has shown a preference for 8 in 1 Ultimate diet and will dig through the shelter blend to find pieces of it.  She is litter trained in the cage, but may need some work outside of the cage.  Positive reinforcement should work well with her.  Vet check done on 7/5/10.  Her distemper shot had been done at DFL on 5/25/10.

August
Tony is a very sweet, people oriented boy who arrived at Fond du Lac Humane as a stray.  At FVF we have noticed that he is very playful and will do "big pink mounth" but doesn't bite.  He has a stuffed bear that he likes to stash.  He is fine around dogs and seems interested in other ferrets, although we haven't let him bond with any.  Based on the condition of his teeth, we estimate he was born early spring or summer of 2009 (about 1 ½  at his vet check).  He was vet checked and had his distemper done on 8/4/10 at AMC.

Mister (dark) and Prince Charming arrived with their two brothers (listed separately) when their owner no longer had time for them.  Both these ferrets are extremely sweet and playful.  They haven't shown any nipping or biting behavior although they will do "big pink mouth" when they are playing.  They are learning the litter box, but don't have it perfect yet.  They need a bed they can crawl into and feel secure or they tend to sleep in the litter pan.  Prince Charming does have a strange joint on his front leg-our vet believes it is a birth defect.  Based on the condition of their teeth, they were probably born mid 2007.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 6/17/10 (amc).

Sweet Pea (silver) and Tabasco arrived when their owner could no longer care for them.  According to the information we received, Sweet Pea does nip a little bit, especially "stealth nips"-darting out from under the sofa and "tagging" you to get you to play.  She likes to know what you are doing.  She is reportedly three, but her teeth indicate she may be up to a year older-her diet at her old home may be making her teeth appear older however.  Tabasco (also known as Tabby) likes to cuddle, play and explore her environment.  She was reported as being two, however again, her teeth indicate she may be a year older.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 6/17/10 (AMC).

Bandicoot was surrendered by his eleven year old owner because he had "too many animals to take care of"-the family had recently gotten a dog.  Bandicoot is a typical young ferret.  He is very energetic and has things to get into and stuff to take.  He would probably love a home with another young ferret, but at this time could also go as a single.  According to information given at the time of surrender, he has never bitten and is a very nice ferret.  This is consistent with what we have seen here at the shelter.  He is getting better about the litter pan, but still needs some work.  Based on the condition of his teeth and information that he was purchased "about a year" prior to being surrendered, we believe he was born early spring of 2009.  Vet check and distemper done on 8/17/10 (AMC).

Popcorn and Cracker Jack arrived when their family could no longer care for them.  Popcorn knows his name and does respond to it (mostly).  According to our volunteer who foster cared them for a couple of months, he relishes human interaction.  He likes to hang out with his humans and likes it best when the humans hang out with him and Cracker Jack on the floor and play.  He's a very gentle boy who does not use his mouth much for play.  He likes dogs, cats, and kids.  He is VERY interested in fruit juice and will climb legs for it.  He also loved the volunteer's husband and enjoyed rubbing his head in his goatee.  Based on the condition of his teeth and owner report, he was born earlier in 2009.  Cracker Jack is people oriented like his brother-but more bold.  He actively seeks out his friends and is not shy.  He follows people like a puppy and pouts in a speed bump when left at a barrier or door.  He is also very gentle during play and likes dogs, cats and kids.  He likes Bandit treats, but does not like ferretone.  He is also very interested in fruit juice.  He is a couch diver-so be warned.  Based on report and the condition of his teeth, he was born summer of 2009.  Both boys will climb, but aren't very good at it.  Both are very active.  Vet check and distemper shots done on 8/17/10 (AMC).

Brandon is a sweet boy who is learning how to trust people again.  He was found stray in Brandon and came to FVF via Waupun Humane.  When he arrived, he had sore hind feet, which resolved in a couple of days-we initially believed his pads had been irritated while he was fending for himself, however, following the discovery of a BB imbedded in his jaw we wonder if he hadn't also been shot in the hindquarters (no other BBs have been found).  The BB in his jaw had completely healed over and our vet decided it would be more damaging to remove so it will stay unless an infection develops.  Brandon has decided he really likes hammocks and snuggie sacks.  He has done a little hopping during his explorations at the shelter, but hasn't found his happy dance yet.  Based on the condition of his teeth, we believe he was born early in 2009.  His vet check and distemper shot was done on 8/4/10 (AMC).  His jaw as x-rayed on 8/23/10 (LS).

Sept
Punkin
is a sweet little girl who gives kisses.  She and her brother arrived in Oct 2009 as a victim of the economy.      Her brother had some health issues and went to the bridge on March 25, 2010 (we suspect a form of cancer).  She was adopted early in May 2010 but had issues with one of the other ferrets in the home, resulting in her return to the shelter after three weeks.  Punkin has always been with other ferrets and is doing well in the general population now that she is over missing her brother.  She has never done any biting-not even nipping during play.  She has been with a dog, but not cats.  Since she has always been with at least one other ferret she should not be considered as an "only".  Based on the condition of her teeth, she was likely born late in 2006 or early in 2007.  Vet check and distemper done on 10/23/09 (AMC).

Twilight arrived as a three month foster and was surrendered at the end of his foster contract.  He is very sweet and loves people and other ferrets, although he doesn't have any special friend here he MUST be in a home with at least one other ferret.  He has not done any nipping or biting here at the shelter and none was reported in his prior home.  Based on the condition of his teeth he was probably born mid 2008.  Vet check and distemper done on 3/3/10 (AMC).

October
Annie, Casey and Sundance arrived when their family was forced to move.  They originally came on as foster ferrets while their family tried to get them waived into the new apartment as "therapeutic"-however they were unsuccessful.  Casey is described as lovable, cuddly, and a "mother hen" to the other two.  She was born March 2006.  Her favorite toy is a stuffed frog-although she disemboweled her original frog and isn't as interested in the replacement.  Sundance is described as a curious clown who loves to be played with.  He was born November of 2006.  "Orphan" Annie had been bounced through a couple of homes before joining Casey and Sundance.  She MUST stay with them.  She is described as very intelligent and a problem solver.  She is also extremely active and climbs.  She was born sometime in 2006-the month is unknown.  These ferrets had not had a litter pan prior to arrival at FVF.  They are doing well with one in the cage, as long as it is cleaned regularly.  Vet check and distemper shots done on 12/10/09 (AMC).    Casey had adrenal surgery on 5/6/10 (LS).  She had bilateral involvement.  The left gland was removed and the right debulked.  Because the right gland could not be completely removed, she may continue to show signs of adrenal disease and may need ferretonin implants in the future.  This makes her a special needs ferret.

Stevie and Aphrodite arrived in January as foster ferrets.  Their contract was extended beyond the initial three months, but we have not heard anything from their old family since we called them in June.  As a result, we are classifying them as surrendered and listing them for adoption.  Both are sweet and people oriented, though Stevie is more interested in being with people and Aphrodite wants to go explore more.  Aphrodite will sometimes get mouthy when she plays so she should not be considered for a home with younger children.  Stevie apparently had an ear issue when he was younger and does some head rolling as a result.  His former owner named him after Stevie Wonder because of it.  Based on owner report and the condition of their teeth, we think they were born early in 2009.  Vet check and distemper shot done on 1/5/10 (AMC).

Oscar and Yoshi arrived early in Sept when their owner moved and could not take them along.  Since it was not their owner who brought them to the shelter, information on them was second hand at best.  We were originally told that Yoshi was 13 years old, his teeth indicate that he is probably around 5 (born summer of 2005).  Oscar was reported as 5 or 6, his teeth age him at about 3 (born summer 2007).  Both have very good activity levels and are interested in playing and in other ferrets.  Both adjusted very well to the shelter blend food.  When they first got to us they didn't know what a litter pan was for and the entire bottom of their cage was covered in bed fluff.  They are now nearly 100% litter trained in the cage as long as it is kept clean.  Vet check and distemper shots done on 9/13/10 (LS).

Simba and Nala are young ferrets that were born Jan of 2010, purchased in May of 2010 and surrendered to FVF in Sept of 2010.  According to the person surrendering them, they had been caged without getting out at all for 2 ½ months prior to their surrender because she got "busy".  These ferrets were severely cage stressed and MUST get at least 2 hours out of cage time daily.  They are doing well with socialization, but still have the nippy excited behavior of kits.  Vet check and distemper shots done on 9/20/10 (LS).

Barruch would be a wonderful "first ferret".  He is very sweet and loves to be held and snuggled once he has run around and burned off some energy.  He was surrendered when his owner went off to law school and could not find an apartment where Barruch was welcome.  The owner's parents considered keeping him since he was the dad's TV watching buddy, but they decided they didn't have the proper lifestyle for a ferret.  Barruch seems fine with dogs but does not appreciate the company of other ferrets.  Here at the shelter we have noticed that Barruch will pick certain food out of our shelter blend-he seems to have a preference for Totally Ferret Active and Show.  Based on owner report and the condition of his teeth, he was probably born summer or fall of 2008.  Vet check and distemper done on 9/13/10 (LS).

Luca
arrived via BAHS after being removed from a home in Green Bay where she was kept with a cat and multiple kittens in dirty conditions.  She is a very friendly, people focused ferret.  She does occasionally shoulder.  Her coat is very coarse right now, but it has been improving since she is now in clean conditions and getting good food.  Now that she has had her adrenal surgery we expect she will bring in a great coat.  Since her surgery she is getting a little "feisty" and will do some mild nipping if she wants attention or is very excited.  Here at the shelter she has made the transition to the general population and enjoys having ferret friends.  She should not be considered as an only ferret.  Based on the condition of her teeth, she was probably born summer of 2008.  Luca had a broken canine remove on 8/9/10 (LS) and adrenal surgery on 9/10/10 (LS).  Vet check done on 8/4/10 (AMC)-her distemper shot had been done at BAHS on 7/28/10.

Baby and Fatty (picture pending) arrived after the break up of a relationship.  Not much information was given, but what we were told is that Fatty had been the "original" ferret and tends to gain and loose weight seasonally.  He is probably about 2 ½ years old (born spring or summer of 2008).  He has never bitten and from what we have seen here at FVF, he does a great "legless ferret" wanting to be held and carried.  Baby had only been with the family for a couple months.  She was found running stray and when no one claimed her the family kept her.  Based on the condition of her teeth, she was probably born fall of 2008.  In spite of being a very active girl, she is fat.  She snores.  She will sometimes nip when she is playing or doesn't want to go back in the cage.  Both ferrets have been with a cat, neither bothered her.  Vet check and distemper shots done on Nov 26, 2010.
